Luke probably came from Antioch, was a Gentile Christian and, according to tradition, was a doctor or lawyer by profession. Nothing is known about his conversion to Christianity. Luke joined Paul and accompanied him as a companion and loyal friend on his second and third voyages, on the journey to Rome and during his imprisonment there. He is considered to be the author of the gospel of the same name and the author of the Acts of the Apostles.
Remembrance Day: January 4., April 22., October 18.
On the icon he is represented with a book and a quill.
