According to the law, the 40th day after the birth of a boy, is the “day of purification” on which the mother hands over the sacrifice. On the icon, the parents and Jesus meet the aged Simeon and the prophetess Hannah. They recognize in the child the Redeemer and Savior of Israel. Simeon takes Jesus in his arms and starts the hymn of praise. In Simeon’s encounter with the child, the Old is replaced by the New Testament.
