Beschreibung

Saint Hieromartyr Antipas is portrayed in episcopal liturgical robes, blessing and with the Gospel in his left hand. He is known as the patron saint of dentists.

According to the testimony of Revelation (2,13), St. Antipas was a faithful witness of the good news in Pergamon. The Orthodox tradition therefore calls him Bishop of Pergamon and student of John. The legend tells of the martyrdom under Emperor Domitian, according to which he was thrown into a hot earthen ox figure, which the population normally used to drive away demons. According to tradition, he was buried in the Episcopal Church in Pergamon. Healings also took place at his grave, from which Myron flowed. St. Antipas died ca. 68 in Pergamon, today Bergama in Turkey or ca. 92 in Ephesus. His feast day is on April 11.
