Beschreibung

Material: bronze/brass/yellow metal.

At the top: God the Father, the Holy Spirit and two angels.

In the middle: the crucified one with the sun and moon, which represent the entire cosmic system. To the left of the crucified one is the Holy Lance, with which Jesus was wounded at his side, and to the right is the pole topped by a hyssop sponge with which he received vinegar.

Below: the city walls of Jerusalem, Golgotha and the skull of Adam.

Back: floral motif and medallions praising the cross: “Cross, protection of all creation, beauty of the Church, rule of rulers, confidence of believers, glory of angels, miracle of demons”.

The Russian cross (also “Orthodox Cross” or “Byzantine Cross”) is a special form of the cross with two horizontal and one inclined cross arms: The top, short cross arm represents the titulus board (on which the inscription INRI could be read when Jesus was crucified).

The middle, longer cross arm was intended for the attachment of the arms of a crucified person.

The lower, inclined cross arm represents the suppedaneum (supporting footboard, footstep, footstool) on which the crucified were placed.
