Grand Duchess of Russia
* around 890 in Pskov, Russia
† July 11, 969 in Kiev, Ukraine
Olga was the wife of Igor I of Moskovia and thus Grand Duchess of Russia. After the murder of her husband, she ruled from 945 to 962 for the minor son and led the army against the rebellious people. After her son took over the affairs of government, she went to Constantinople – today’s Ístanbul – and was baptized at the age of almost 70; her baptismal name became Elena. She returned home and tried to be missionary, but she could not even win her own son to Christianity.
