Bishop of Athens
†around 250 in Athens in Greece
Leonidas became bishop of Athens as successor to Kodratos.
Â
Leonidas was buried in Athens on a former island of the river Ilisos, above the tomb in the 5th century the Ilisos Basilica was built, consecrated to him at the time, whose foundations have been preserved.
Â
Leonidas is also referred to as a martyr due to an equation with Leonidas; after his martyrdom, his remains, together with those of his companions, were transferred to Athens in the Ilisos Basilica in the 5th century.
