Joan, wife of Chusa, an official to King Herod Antipas, was healed by Jesus and then followed him as one of the female disciples who accompanied Jesus and also supported him and the twelve disciples financially from their fortunes (Gospel of Luke 8:2-3). She was also present at his burial (Gospel of Luke 23:55) and, along with Mary Magdalene and Mary of James, was one of the women who went to jesus’ tomb on Easter morning to embalm him, which is why the Orthodox tradition calls her Myron bearer. Thus, as one of the women, she became the first witness of the resurrection (Luke 24:10).

According to tradition, Joan knew where Herodias had buried the head of John the Baptist, took it and then buried it honorably on the Mount of Olives near Jerusalem.
