Virgins, Martyrs
†around 300 in Amisos in Pontus, today Samsun in Turkey
Alexandra (Alexandria), Claudia (Caldia), Euphrasia, Matrona, Juliana, Euphemia and Theodosia (Theodora), the seven virgins, died as martyrs under Emperor Maximianus for the sake of their faith. Their clothes were pulled out, then they were scourged, their breasts were cut off, they were hung up and torn to pieces until their intestines fell out, finally they were thrown into a glowing oven. Some directories add Derphuta and her sister.
